I live in Guelph - an artsy, tree hugging university town in Ontario. I work hard to be a creative and innovative influence in the places I find myself. Most of the time that looks like networking with other creatives, researching, or filling up my sketchbook / journal with ideas.

You watched THAT movie?! and LIKED it?!

I am inspired in this moment by a recent facebook post by my good friend Shawn. Hence, I begin a series of posts about movies I've seen and enjoyed, despite their possession of all the earmarks of lameness. Buckle thine seatbelts, gang.

The Movie:

Pathfinder - 2007, starring Karl Urban (of Star Trek and Lord of the Rings fame )

Here's what the critics had to say:

"Bombastic action rescues monotonous Pathfinder."
- Boston Globe

Both 'monotonous' and 'bombastic' in the same sentence! That's reason enought to watch, right?

"...a bizarre, bloody adventure movie..."
- Chicago Tribune

Who doesn't love bizarre and/or bloody andventure movies?

- New York Post

Yep. It was.

"All grunting, all goring, the witless action flick Pathfinder has little to recommend it..."
-New York Times

This one's my fave. 'grunting and goring' - brilliant. 'witless action flick'. Mmm, the words go down so smoothly!

That one's in the books. Please don't think less of me!

Not only do NOT think less of you, I admire your "bombastic" audacity to tell the world (i.e. blog readership) that you like what you like. In my book, if a movie is stupid enough, it may, at the very least, qualify as "entertainment". That's all I ask of a film.

I will admit to having rented "Pathfinder", but I fast-forwarded through most of it. I'd recommend "The Last of the Mohicans" with Daniel Day-Lewis...better acting, with no less blood-letting.

Keep the "Lame Movie Review" going...want more!

Last of the Mohicans WAS good. It's definitely in the top percentile of my fave movies, as well as being a standout of American Fiction.

Thanks for the read!
